Amber and Brian were married at St. Francis Church in Washington, DC. This is a venue that I have grown to love, because of the wide open setting. I’ve seen it configured different ways and that all seem to work.

This particular time, the seats were set up in a circular pattern with Amber and Brian in the center. I really loved it, because it was a setup that you really don’t ever see. It allows me to walk around and see things from many different angles.

I was hired only to photograph the ceremony and reception, but there were two things that made this a very interesting wedding. First, Amber and Brian live in New York City and there was a park bench that held a lot of meaning for them. I believe it was in a park that they liked to visit and I also believe it was where Brian proposed to Amber. They got permission to fly the bench from New York City, to Washington, DC. They hung it from a frame and invited all of their guests to sit on it and be part of their love story. The second interesting thing is that Amber is a dancer on Broadway. She has been in many musicals and many of her guests were cast mates from many of those musicals. You can imagine the insanely high quality of dancing on the dance floor that night.

For the formal photos, the church has a very beautiful garden across the street. We went over there and spent about an hour shooting before heading back in for the rest of the evening. There were lots of aspects to the garden that made it wonderful. Flowers were in full bloom. There were brick archways that worked perfectly. There were also iron trellises scatter around with growth of some sort, whether they were climbing vines or flowers. Everything worked so well together, as if its original purpose was for wedding photography.

This was a wedding that will stick with me for a long time. It was fun and unique for me to have been a part of. I wish Amber and Brian nothing but the best in the future.
