Kathleen and Andrew were recommended to me by a friend of mine from high school. I was very appreciative of his recommendation, as they were a very fun couple to work with. We scheduled an engagement shoot prior to their wedding, down at the Navy Yard area in Washington, DC. It was a fun couple of hours of walking around, stopping in different areas that looked interesting. It turned into one of my Zen Walks.

A few months later, it was wedding day. I met up with Kathleen at the Intercontinental at the Wharf to photograph her getting ready. Everyone was having a great time on this overcast day. Luckily, as it drew closer to ceremony time, the clouds started to break a little bit. I had a feeling we may end up with a nice sunset.

We all caught a shuttle bus to the DC War Memorial, which is a monument I had passed many times on my way in and out of Washington, DC, but had never had the opportunity to do much with. It was a great location for a medium sized wedding and one where I had free access to roam around and photograph from multiple angles.

After the ceremony, we stayed around and got some formal and family photos before heading to the reception. Cocktail hour ensued and eventually, everyone headed into the dining room. At this point, my prediction of a nice sunset really came to fruition and we went out on the balcony to take advantage of it.

Once the sun went down, we went back outside to take a few more photos, taking advantage of the incredible location that we had available to us.

The rest of the evening went just as planned and was a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day with new friends and I’m very happy that I was able to be a part of it.
