I always talk about how I love to shoot weddings at Herrington on the Bay in North Beach, MD, so I figured I would create a post and really let you know what I love about it.

Herrington on the Bay is a Maryland Wedding Venue located in North Beach, MD. It is set on the water and encompasses a few different, what I would consider individual locations. There is a marina, beach and swimming pool that are always popular when the weather is nice, as well as really nice rooms that can be rented out and frequently are by wedding parties, but the wedding venues are really what I think are their bread and butter.
The first ceremony site is over near the beach and rock jetty. It is an area that is closed off for privacy by hedges and flower beds. The background is an open pergola that is frequently adorned with tropical plants and flowers. It opens up in the middle with a beautiful view of the water. One of the reasons I love this section of Herrington is the little bridge that the bride comes over on her way to the ceremony. It is popular with first looks and if you’re willing to hop onto the ground underneath the bridge, you can get some very creative angles. The path that takes you over the bridge also curves beautifully on its way to the ceremony. A wide angle allows you to follow the curve of the path with great shots of the bride before she is visible to the guests. Another aspect that I like about this section is the paved path leading to a great pier that is to the side of the ceremony site. You absolutely can’t go wrong with your wedding here.

Herrington has a great indoor option for bad weather or if you just want to take advantage of having a beautiful indoor wedding. Right in the center of Herrington is the main building; a two story, extremely versatile building that generally hosts the ceremony on the first floor, the reception on the second floor and then the reception back down on the first floor. The windows on the lower level overlook the marina and give great sunsets while most receptions are starting. Photographically, I love going up to the upper level during the dancing and getting some overhead shots. It’s an angle that you don’t get very often and it is definitely worth taking advantage of.
The third wedding location for Herrington on the Bay is just a short way down the road, no more than a quarter mile. There is a parking lot, but I believe Herrington also has a shuttle. There is a pergola that is similar to the outdoor location on the other side. It is closed off again by hedges and flowers. To the side is a large outdoor tent and a long pier that is perfect for sunset photos with the bride and groom along with guests. The pier is perfect for first looks as well. From what I’ve experienced, one side of the pier will give you a view of the setting sun and if you turn, you will see soft colors in the skies; reds and oranges if you catch them on the right day.

Overall, if you are looking for a Maryland Wedding Venue, you can’t beat Herrington on the Bay. The staff that works there is great and very accommodating both to the couples and the photographers. It is a beautiful, diverse location that would be sure to meet your needs. From a photographer’s point of view, it’s amazing.
